'The Young and the Restless' Renewed Through Season 55 at CBS

The longest-running scripted series in CBS’ history will add several more years to its total.

The network has ordered four more seasons of its daytime soap The Young and the Restless. The renewal — which comes as a previous four-year pickup is about to end — will take the show through its 55th season in 2027-28.

“The Young and the Restless has been a staple of daytime television for over 50 years, and it is with great pleasure that we will continue that legacy at CBS,” said CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach. “The talented cast and writers deliver compelling performances and stories on a daily basis and have provided iconic moments that have kept the show on top of the ratings and thrilled generations of fans for over five decades. We look forward to seeing what new creative twists and turns they have planned for the folks of Genoa City.”

The Young and the Restless has been the most watched daytime drama for most of its life — it’s currently in the midst of its 36th consecutive season leading the ratings among soaps. The series is averaging about 3.5 million daily viewers in 2023-24, comfortably leading fellow CBS soap The Bold and the Beautiful (2.9 million) and ABC’s General Hospital (2.3 million).

A number of castmembers — including Melody Thomas Scott, Eric Braeden, Kate Linder, Lauralee Bell, Peter Bergman, Jess Walton, Joshua Morrow, Sharon Case and Michelle Stafford — have been with the show for at least 30 years. In April, Y&R will mark the 40th anniversary of the wedding of Nikki (Scott) and Victor (Braeden), which was one of the highest-rated episodes in the show’s history.

The Young and the Restless is produced by Bell Dramatic Serial Company in association with Sony Pictures Television. Josh Griffith is the executive producer and head writer.
