Megan Lucky, beer chug viral sensation, is ready to make waves again at the 2023 US Open

Megan Lucky, renowned for her beer-chugging antics at the past two US Open tournaments, has taken her viral fame and shifted her sights toward financial gain and a city comeback.

Currently residing with her parents in Ridgewood, NJ, the 27-year-old former recruiter seeks to leverage her online popularity to reenter the hustle and bustle of the Big Apple. After facing a layoff from her corporate job last fall, Lucky embarked on a global journey in pursuit of self-discovery.

Sharing her journey, Lucky said: "I still haven't been able to truly monetize. So I'm starting to post more on my socials." To tap into her unique skill, she's exploring partnerships with beverage brands, remarking: "I've done a couple partnerships with alcohol brands - Truly is the most recent."

Her initial surge to fame took place in 2021, when she chugged a Heineken on the Jumbotron at the typically subdued US Open, catching everyone's attention. Reflecting on the moment, she recalled: "I don't know what came over me ... but it was this fun moment, super spontaneous and I didn't think anything of it except to get the crowd going."

Her swift fame was confirmed when she saw herself on ESPN's SportsCenter the following day.

She's become a celebrity

Her now-signature chug quickly became a talk of the town, and the next year, she repeated the stunt with even more eyes on her, as footage from both years showed her remarkably consistent chugging time of 7 minutes and 37 seconds.

The University of South Carolina alum, known for her spirited persona, has earned the title of "cult hero" while also attracting some criticism for her lively behavior at the otherwise formal US Open. In response to detractors, she recounted comments like: "This would never happen at Wimbledon."

In the midst of her journey, Lucky has launched a podcast named "A Lucky Life," reflecting her growing digital presence. With 3,000 followers on Instagram at the outset, her appearances on TV propelled her followers to 25,000 and then an impressive 100,000.
