Kristen Stewart debuts rock n' roll russet fringe at Chanel

Chanel's annual Metiers D'Art show, which took place in Manchester last night, played homage to the city's electric energy and its rich history of music and nightlife.

On the star-studded front row, no one embodied Manchester's rock n' roll vibe more than the house's ambassador, Kristen Stewart.

Stewart is no stranger to bringing her own eclectic, rebellious aesthetic to Chanel's signature tweed sets and couture gowns, often via expressive hair and make-up looks. Whether its pairing a frothy tulle petticoat dress with a mullet haircut and maroon smokey eyes or wearing a white suit with a faux mohawk and impossibly polished skin at the Met Gala, Stewart has perfected the art of owning everything that she wears.

Her look in Manchester last night was no exception. Decked in a tweed Chanel dress with a flared skirt and stompy black boots, Stewart debuted a russet red face-framing fringe that was anything but prim thanks to plenty of rained-on texture (the verdict's still out on whether that was intentional or if Stewart actually did get caught in the unpredictable English weather – but either way, it worked in her favour).

"We mimicked the city's historical layers into K's hair," wrote her hairstylist Adir Abergel on Instagram. "Manchester, where the Chanel show was held, is the birth place of industrialisation and grit and Joy Division and the rust orange overlapping the ribbons of darkness just felt literal and symbolic."

Speaking to Bazaar UK last spring, Abergel described fringes as "a great way to create a different shape for your hair." He added: "If it’s all one length, there’s not much variety to play with, but with a fringe, you can create beautiful movement across your face."

The rest of Stewart's dark hair was pulled back into a grungy chignon. Deep red tones, also dubbed 'Cherry Cola', is big news in beauty right now after Dua Lipa unveiled her hair transformation in October.

For those who are still on the fence for a complete makeover, adding subtle russet tones a la Stewart is a clever way to not only ease yourself into the trend, but also add interest to brunette hair.
